Charles Spackman is the Founder, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Spackman Group, a global investment firm that he founded in 1997. Spackman Group oversees a network of leading businesses in a diverse range of industries. Mr. Spackman is a veteran of the global financial markets with nearly three decades of experience in a wide spectrum of investment and business activities throughout multiple market segments, from media & entertainment to information technology and finance.
Starting in the 1990’s, Mr. Spackman was one of the most prominent and earliest investors in internet technology businesses in Asia, acquiring and investing into over a 100 companies in the sector. In the early 2000’s, he was a pioneer in investments into environmental technology businesses, or clean technologies, which culminated into two listed companies, namely Key Engineering in Korea and Grandy Environmental Technologies in Hong Kong.
Mr. Charles Spackman also founded Spackman Entertainment Group (“SEG”) in 2011, a leading entertainment production company that has produced some of Korea's highest grossing films. In 2014, he spearheaded the initial public offering of SEG in Singapore, and served as its Executive Chairman until 2017. SEG’s affiliate company, Spackman Media Group, is one of Korea’s largest entertainment agencies that represents an elite roster of the biggest names in motion pictures, TV, commercial endorsements, and branded entertainment in Korea and beyond. For the past two decades, Mr. Spackman has been a powerhouse in the Korean entertainment industry, starting in the early 2000's with the pioneering success of Sidus Pictures, a company that he built into Korea's largest movie production firm at the time.
Prior to establishing Spackman Group in 1997, Mr. Spackman worked in the mergers & acquisitions and investment banking divisions of UBS, Peregrine, Jardine Fleming and Smith Barney.
An active alumnus of Harvard, Mr. Spackman founded and chairs the Harvard-Asia Scholarship Council and the Spackman Scholarship Fund at Harvard University, a fund dedicated to providing financial aid to undergraduate students. He also served as a member of the Harvard FAS Dean's Task Force on the Undergraduate Experience. He graduated with an A.B. in Economics from Harvard College.
